Restaurant Hasenburg

Restaurant Hasenburg, Basel

Our offer is a refreshing balance of proven and new, let yourself be inspired by our seasonal offer and our small but fine beer & wine list.

The Hasenburg is one of the oldest restaurants in Basel and has existed for over 120 years. The building itself was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1356 and is thus almost 700 years old.

More than 250 years ago Maria Magdalena Leopard ran a "Kaffeewirtschaft" which she sold in 1768 to Mr. Emanuel Mieg. After several changes of ownership, the "Kaffeewirtschaft" was closed in about 1854.

In the house next door, Imbergässlein 2, there had been a "Pinten Wirtschaft" since 1850 which had to be closed in 1893 for structural reasons. Thereupon, the existing business patent was transferred to the neighboring house and the Hasenburg was born. The first landlord was a certain Louis Phillipp Schlienger-Berlinger. The Hasenburg has now been owned by the Rieder family for more than half a century and is still a "real family business".

In our very small kitchen on the 1st floor we prepare typical Swiss cuisine and modern seasonal dishes. We cook fresh, genuine and do not use any ready-made products. All sauces, smoked salmon, desserts, glaces we make ourselves.
