PROMISE ME THAT YOU WILL STAY ALIVE - A captivating story that needs to be told!
"It's dark. Bitterly cold. I'm cowering in the corner. I'm completely huddled under my blanket. My breathing is shallow. Under no circumstances move..."
So begins the moving account of the Sephardic Jew Isaak Behar, who survived underground in Berlin during the Second World War. His autobiography "Promise me that you will stay alive" has been included by Steven Spielberg in the archive of his Shoa Foundation as an impressive contemporary testimony. The story, read by Zurich actor Klaus Henner Russius, revives the brutal terror of the Nazi dictatorship, but at the same time bears witness to a great willingness to help and deep humanity, and is presented in interplay with compositions by the ensemble NESHAMA - NEUE SEPHARDISCHE LIEDER. The music, which corresponds to the text, combines the traditional sound language of Sephardic songs with contemporary styles and takes the listener on a journey to two time periods of the persecution of the Jews: the exodus of the Sephardim in the 15th century is accompanied by the experience of the Holocaust.
