A museum full of life.

More than 100 residential and farm buildings from all over Switzerland can be discovered and marveled at in the Open-Air Museum Ballenberg. The stately farmhouses, the modest buildings of the day laborers, the alpine settlements or the stables, barns, granaries, wash houses and drying kilns illustrate as architectural and as social-historical witnesses the everyday life and the rural culture of past times.

The historic buildings could not be preserved in their original location and were therefore carefully dismantled and rebuilt on the 66-hectare museum grounds. Kitchens, chambers and living rooms provide insights into everyday rural life in Switzerland.
